Running Head: Saving Nature
Dr. John Thorburn
Plant and animal species are becoming extinct every single day and we have to save these
species. Mahatma Gandhi once stated that “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can
be judged by the way its animals are treated.” (Richardson, 2019). Every individual plays a small
part in preserving the animal and plant species and the World Wide Fund provides an
opportunity to contribute towards this preservation. A survey conducted in the year 2012 showed
that there are more than 10,000 vulnerable, 5000 endangered and 3000 critically endangered
species (Jimura, 2018). Giving to the worldwide fund can range from financial support to
volunteering to take part in various organizational activities. This is a discussion of the different
ways that the worldwide fund helps in the conservation of nature was through our combined
efforts; it is possible to save nature one step at a time.
Animals and plant species that are at risk of extinction are usually considered as
endangered. The deaths of the animals and plants are heavily contributed by human activities
that reduce the availability of a sustainable living environment. These activities include;
pollution of the environment, deforestation, and destruction of animal habitats through manmade
causes such as fires. The continuation of these behaviors is likely to result in the endangerment
of the natural resources which will result in the lack of basic resources such as food, medicine,
and clothes. Human beings must protect the living things in the environment as they have
ecological and economical importance.
The World Wide Fund provides a solution for addressing the above need in society for
the protection of endangered animals and plant species. The organization has been working
towards reducing their carbon footprint in the last 4 years. To achieve this, the company has
invested over $1.16 billion in over 11,000 projects that are aimed at conserving nature
(Anyango-van Zwieten, Lamers & van der Duim, 2019). These projects are located in over 100
countries with approximately 1.2 million members from the United States and at least 5 million
members worldwide ((World Wide fund, 2020). A study showed that the earth is currently using
30% more resources than the Earth can replenish which has resulted in the current climate
change (Bingham, Bignoli, Lewis, MacSharry, Burgess, Visconti & Brooks, 2019). Every living
thing is a part of an interconnected and complex system where if one part of the system breaks
down, the Earth is in danger. Recognizing this gap, the worldwide fund established different
partnerships including; humanitarian, government, corporate, and marketing.
WWF has partnered with corporate companies such as Coca-Cola, Nike, Ikea, and
Toyota where the organization can use the resources in scientific research and global reach to
promote sustainable practices during production (World Wide fund, 2020). WWF additionally
uses its resources in partnership with organizations such as the Red Cross society and the
government to help in building back a community in case of natural disasters. Through
Humanitarian partnership programs, the organization aims at the eco-friendly reconstruction of
destroyed communities. Through these partnership programs, the WWF has been able to create
global awareness of the need for the promotion of eco-friendly solutions for the preservation of
World Wide Fund appreciates the contributions made by the members of the international
community towards achieving their goals. There are various ways that people can contribute
directly or indirectly towards the accomplishment of the company’s mission. One of the ways to
support the WWF is through donations towards the different programs of the organization. The
donation processes are available on the organization’s website where encryption is used to
protect the safety of the donor financial information (World Wide fund, 2020). Another way of
giving to the organization is through the adoption of the different endangered animals to provide
care for these animals. One can also provide support through purchasing the unique apparel and
gifts that are available on the company website.
In conclusion, we have to save the plant and animal species that are becoming extinct
every single day. The animal and plant species meet different ecological and economic needs of
the society where their extinction will cause many dangers to society. The World Wide Fund
adopts different partnership programs such as humanitarian, government, corporate, and
marketing to assist in the protection of the endangered species. Every contribution made towards
the World Wide Fund in terms of donations, adoptions, or gifts goes towards providing a more
sustainable future for all plant and animal species.
